Why Should You Buy A Used Car From A Dealer

Why Should You Buy A Used Car From A Dealer?

The car market has been full of ups and downs in recent months not to mention the tough economic times we are all facing. But despite this, everyone at some point will need to buy a car to replace their current one.

Used Car Dealers Vs. Classifieds

Buying a used car from a classified site has some pros and cons. On the surface it meets your budget but there will be uncertainty about the quality of what’s under the hood. Even if you've had good experiences in the past, it's hard to know for sure what you're getting. When you buy from a used car dealer, they have to be licensed by their state and typically vehicles will have been through a mechanical inspection of some sort.

1.  Condition – It's in their best interest to purchase cars that are in good condition to sell to you.

2.  History Reports  – When you buy from a dealer, they can tell you about the car's history. If it was involved in an accident, or how many owners it's had. This will give you some idea of what to expect down the road.

3.  Financing – Coming up with hard cash can be a challenge for anyone these days, and paying someone you just met online gives you little recourse. Most states have lemon laws giving you options from a dealer you wouldn't otherwise have.

4.  Paperwork – Oftentimes, people don't realize that when they purchase a used car from classified ads, they still have to go with the seller to transfer the title. You will also have to arrange your own financing. Most people barely have the time to shop for a car much less deal with all the paperwork that's required.

Buy a Used Car as a First Car in Hopkinsville, KY

Purchasing your first vehicle is a big deal! And as the second-largest purchase, most of us will make in our lifetime, it’s vital to make an informed and intelligent decision. Before you get down to deciding whether you want a two-door coupe, a sedan or an SUV, you have a larger question to answer: should you buy new vs used? And no matter your situation, you should look into purchasing a used car as your first vehicle.

At Stallons Auto in Hopkinsville, we are proud to offer a robust selection of low-mileage, high-quality used cars, trucks, and SUVs. Our experienced team of sales professionals will listen to your unique needs and match you to the perfect solution. In the meantime, you can continue reading to learn some of the key reasons your first vehicle should be a high-quality pre-owned vehicle from Stallons Auto.

Get More Tech & Value with a High-Quality Pre-Owned Vehicle

Most first-time car buyers find themselves in a precarious situation — between what the heart desires and wallet can afford. Unfortunately, these two key considerations don’t always align. If you’re like most first-time car buyers, you may have a champagne taste with Bud Light money.

And that’s okay! When you purchase a used vehicle, you can simply get more of the stuff you want without having to break the bank. This means you’ll enjoy some of the latest and most advanced features on a high-quality used vehicle that may be out of your budget on a new car.

Save Money with Lower Monthly Payments & More Realistic Auto Loan Terms

If you’re a first-time car buyer, the last thing you want to do is overextend yourself. Doing so can ensure you start off on the wrong foot in building your credit and open the door to a world of other problems later down the road. The best solution is to start your credit off on the right foot by choosing the more manageable payments of a used vehicle.

According to data from Experian, the average used car loan was around $19,708 in 2018; while the average loan amount for a new car was $30,958. Which loan do you think a lender will be more likely to issue a first-time car buyer?

Avoid New Car Depreciation

When you buy a new car, you are subject to paying the dreaded new-car depreciation. Most new cars will depreciate anywhere from 20% up to 30% by the end of the first year. This means, your new car for $30,958 will decrease by $9,287 — regardless of the condition of the vehicle or the number of miles. However, when you purchase a high-quality used car, you’ll allow the first owner to take the massive new-car depreciation hit.

Pickup Trucks for Your Small Business at Stallons

Small business owners are some of the hardest working people in America. When you work for yourself, nobody will look out for your business the way you do. That’s why pickup trucks make the most trustworthy business partners. They’re strong, reliable and ready to go whenever you are. At Stallons Auto, pickup trucks come for a great price (and don’t require paid time off or holiday bonuses!) Our Hopkinsville lot is full of used trucks just waiting to help businesses like yours.

Why Pre-Owned is Best for Business

Powerhouse vehicles command the road, store everything you need and tow heavy for any project. They also come at a cost, and for good reason. However, there’s no such thing as exorbitant prices on our lot. We have all the brand recognition and high-strength quality you’re looking for without having to break your bank. Previous pickup drivers often never used their trucks for the tough work they were built to do. As light commute trucks or family transportation, most of the trucks on our lot have miles and miles of heavy towing left in them. Every vehicle that comes across our lot gets a full inspection, so you never have to worry about the quality you’re getting from Stallons.

Towing, Storage and More

Whatever your business may need, there’s a truck for that. Plumbers and more home maintenance services will appreciate the amount of storage offered in a pickup truck. You have beds of all sizes with a variety of tool box add-ons for tools, equipment and personal items. Painters, carpenters and lawn care businesses will utilize this storage too. You’ll also need a long truck cab for ladders, a durable bed and body for transporting heavy lawn equipment and a simple loading and unloading process. Construction companies are some of the most likely buyers for pickup trucks with all the odds-and-ends needed at a jobsite. Construction and farmers both really appreciate the towing aspect of pickup trucks as well. When you need construction and farming equipment delivered efficiently and safely, there’s nothing easier than hitching up to the back of your pre-owned pickup.

Our Impressive Pickup Inventory

You want a name you recognize, trust and respect to take your business to the next level. At Stallons Auto, we’ve got ‘em all: Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, RAM 1500, the list goes on. You may want something smaller like a Toyota Tacoma or Chevy Colorado. We have those too! Heavy Duty shoppers will want to take advantage of our Ford F-250s and 350s, Ram 2500s and 3500s and Silverado 2500s and 3500s. We’ve got more unique trucks as well, like the Nissan Titan, Toyota Tundra and Honda Ridgeline. If you’d like a truck you can take to work and then hit the trails, consider a Ford Ranger or even Jeep Gladiator. The beauty of a pre-owned lot is that you never know what you may find to make your business even better!

Entry-Level Cars and SUVs at Stallons Auto in Hopk

When you’re new to the vehicle market, the search can be overwhelming. Our lot of pre-owned cars, trucks and SUVs at Stallons Auto is versatile, high-quality and easy to navigate. Come to our lot with an idea of what you’d like to test drive, and our product specialists will take it from there. We’ll show you your options based on size, price and capabilities. If you have no clue where to start, that’s okay too! We will walk first-time drivers through every step of finding a vehicle, securing financing and ensuring their safety on the road.

Why Buy Pre-Owned

Forget any old preconceived notions about used vehicles. One main benefit of purchasing a pre-owned vehicle is the price tag. Used cars are less costly than new vehicles for a variety of reasons. In a used car, you’re getting what you pay for (which is often a good thing!) A new vehicle loses value the second it drives off the lot. That means that a car can be just six months old and at least $10,000 cheaper than it would have been brand-new. With a used vehicle, there’s no exorbitant price tag just for being the first owner. Another perk of buying pre-owned is that you get to test out makes, models and sizes to figure out what kind of vehicle you really enjoy driving before going all in and buying brand new. Purchasing pre-owned is a smart way to pay less and get more.

Keeping New Drivers Safe

At Stallons Auto, we never put a vehicle on our lot that we don’t trust. If we wouldn’t drive it, we won’t sell it. Especially for a new driver, safety is the number one priority when you’re shopping for a new-to-you vehicle. Our product team gives each vehicle a full review: exterior, interior, under the hood, out on the road and more. If somebody brings a less-than-standard vehicle to our lot, we simply won’t accept it. When you find a vehicle you’re interested in, we’ll walk you through it inside and out. We want you to feel confident that there’s nothing to hide, so feel free to ask as many questions and be as picky as you’d like. If you’re not 100% sold on a vehicle after you take a test drive, we’ll keep searching until you are. Our goal at Stallons Auto is to ensure the safety of every Hopkinsville driver, and that starts with our new and entry-level buyers.

First-Time Financing

Because a pre-owned vehicle has a lower cost, you may be able to purchase without loans which would bring your monthly auto costs down to just insurance. However, if you plan to finance your vehicle and take out a loan, our finance team is here to help! We’re committed to empowering Hopkinsville drivers to make informed decisions with their vehicle finances. We’ll always be straightforward with you and make a plan that’s personalized to your wallet. At Stallons, we’ve made the financing process simpler than ever. Use our online application to save time at the dealership and get pre-approved before you even arrive. You can also shop by price on our website and calculate your loan amount for optimal planning before the shopping begins.

What I Need to Know Before I Tow

There are quite a few things to know before you pick out the right vehicle for your towing needs. What used to be a strict pickup market has changed with SUVs becoming more powerful than ever before. Basically, larger trucks and SUVs tend to be heavier, and in that, you’re towing capacity may go down. Longer vehicles are more lightweight, giving you more pounds to tow. That’s the big difference when you shop light-duty versus heavy-duty pickups. The smaller pickups like the Chevrolet Colorado provide plenty of punch, usually allowing you to tow 10,000-12,000 pounds which is more than enough for a boat or camper. But if you’re hauling big-time cargo, you may want to look into heavy or super-duty pickups, like the Ford F-Series. These monsters are built to tow, with capabilities sometime exceeding 20,000 pounds.

Best Vehicles to Tow Trailers

When it comes to towing, it’s not always about horsepower, but the torque it provides. The bigger the engine — especially when you get into diesel engines of heavy-duty vehicles — the bigger the torque. But if you’re looking for an ideal vehicle to load up a trailer for a family vacation, you don’t necessarily need a massive or even midsize pickup. Take the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV for example. When properly equipped, the Tahoe can haul almost 9,000 pounds, which is more than enough for a couple of ATVs or even another car. When it comes to towing, you have plenty of options to choose from.

Innovative Towing Technology Makes Hauling Easy

Of course, it’s not always all about power. When you are driving a big heavy-duty pickup with farm equipment in tow, or have a hitch hooked up to the family-friendly Honda Pilot, you know you’ll want all your precious cargo to arrive safely. In today’s high-tech world, towing has never been easier. Many vehicles are starting to come standard with rearview or multi-view cameras, while tow-assist features — like sway control and lane assist — are available to take the dangers of the open road out of your hands.

Find the Best Pickup Truck Cab and Bed Size for Yo

Whether you’re looking for a pickup truck for your worksite or a vehicle with all the room to get the family around Hopkinsville, Stallons Auto has the truck for you. But before you buy the pre-owned pickup you desire, it’s important to understand which is right for you. Knowing the advantages of each bed and cab size is beneficial to your everyday needs, so be sure to call 270-885-1631 to make sure you are finding the best pickup for you!

Pickup Cab Sizes: Standard, Extended, Double, and Crew

Finding the right size cab is certainly important to your everyday use of your pickup. For example, a truck used on the job site doesn’t need as much room inside as one fore weekend adventures with the family. So, which is right for you? The regular or standard cab is the traditional pickup setup with one row of seating that fits three comfortably. The extended cab has four hinged doors, meaning they open backward. While there is a backbench, it’s better used for cargo than multiple people. The Double and Crew Cab are pretty similar, both with four doors that open as you’d expect and two rows of seating. The Crew Cab has larger doors and more room in the back seat, making it more ideal for play, but plenty useful for work.

Which Bed Size is Best for Me?

The simplest answer when searching out bed size is what are you expecting to haul around? A standard short bed is the most common size pickup you see on the roads today. It runs about five feet in compact pickups while extending to 6.5 feet in full-size trucks. The long bed is more for work purposes, stretching about two feet further than the short bed. In these beds — which measure seven feet in the compact and eight feet in the full — you can fit supplies for the construction site or farm completely in the bed with the tailgate closed. There are even smaller bed sizes as an option, but these are the two most popular and used.

Well, Which Pickup Truck is Right for Me?

Now that you know about the cab and bed sizes, which pickup works best for your daily use? You’ll be looking at light-duty and heavy-duty — or super-duty — pickup trucks. The light-duty truck is what you see most often on the road with a 1500 to 3000 maximum payload and the capability to tow 12,000 more pounds. That’s perfect for your boat or camper, but also works for many work-related trailers. The heavy-duty pickup trucks are for your workforce with some able to tow 20,000 pounds or more depending on which level you choose.

Keep Your Car Running Like New with Routine Vehicl

You purchased a vehicle and are loving every minute of the freedom and memories that it is bringing to you. The joy you felt driving it off of the lot after signing that dotted line was second to none, so how do you ensure that your vehicle stays in its best shape? Regular maintenance is an essential component of improving the lifespan of your beloved automobile. When you think of vehicle maintenance, chances are the first image that comes to mind is sitting in a stuffy waiting room for hours on end while your vehicle is being serviced in the bay. While there is specific maintenance that should be performed at a dealership, there is also a handful of steps that you can take on your own time. Let’s take a look at the top five vehicle maintenance steps that you can handle.

Don’t Forget Your Owners Manual

With every vehicle that is purchased, regardless if it is off our lot in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, or from a fancy-schmancy dealership, an owner’s manual will be stashed away in the interior. Now sometimes, you might get tired of staring at this ginormous manual in your passenger seat, and you might stow it in the glove compartment or under the backseat, who knows where else it could end up. Still, if you are unable to locate your copy check online, most manufacturers have begun adding manuals online. Have you found your owner’s manual? Okay, now turn to the maintenance section; hint, it’s usually the section that people overlook. Now that you are there be sure to note the time frame of when your vehicle’s oil should be changed, when your tires should be rotated, and any additional year-to-year maintenance. With the owner’s manual located and the maintenance schedule jotted down, you are now ready to embark on the journey of caring for your vehicle.

Your Tires, They Need TLC Too

Think about what holds your car off the road while you are driving… it’s your tires. They are the sole component that is always making contact with the ground. With that knowledge, does it not make sense to ensure that your tires are properly inflated, especially during long road trips? Make sure that your tires are fully inflated, but not overinflated. To find the correct tire pressure for your vehicle, open your driver’s side door. In the door jamb, there is an informational sticker with the correct tire pressure listed. Be sure to reference this when inflating your tires and remember always to inflate your tires when they are cold to ensure a more accurate PSI reading.

There are More Fluids Than Just Motor Oil

Every vehicle has several fluids that coarse through the internal workings making it operate effectively. Liquids such as brake and transmission fluid, coolant and washer fluid can all be found under the hood of your vehicle. To check the levels of your transmission fluid, you will find a dipstick under the hood, which you will read, much like how you read the motor oil levels. Brake fluid, washer fluid, and coolant levels can all be inspected by removing the appropriate lid and seeing how much is left.

Finally, Your Vehicle’s Belts and Hoses

While inspecting these elements goes a bit farther than routine maintenance, finding cracks or bulges early on can help prevent expensive repairs in the future. Anyone can quickly check these by lifting up the hood of a vehicle. While it may seem easier to rely on a dealership or quick lube establishment to maintain your vehicle’s upkeep, taking care of the essential maintenance yourself will save you money in the long run. And heaven forbid your vehicle need extensive repairs done, you will have saved money on the front end to use at this time.

Why Buying a Pre-Owned Truck is the Best Decision

It’s a tale as-old-as-time, should I buy a new or used truck? Many people are quick to take one side or the other, but there is still a handful of people who are on the fence. In people’s minds buying a new truck means brings forth a sense of accomplishment, but why can that not be found when purchasing a pre-owned truck? Buying a pre-owned truck is one of the smartest decisions that a person can make. Yes, there are pros and cons of purchasing a pre-owned vehicle, but if you sit down and think about it, the same is true for purchasing new.

Buying a Used Truck Means a Lower Price

You read that right, and we know that you are happy about that! Who doesn’t love to save money? Trucks are expensive, period. They are built with a solid framework that is designed to withstand the test of time and terrain, not to mention the added technologies. All of these combine to produce a hefty MSRP that is averaging $30,000 right now; that is for a base model of a new truck. However, used trucks will be listed at a lower price point, one that is sure to make your wallet happy, all thanks to a little thing we like to call depreciation. Here is a pro hint, chose a used truck that is between ten and twenty years old, and you will find the best price.

Aren’t Used Trucks Beat Up and No Good?

Great question, but not necessarily. True, there are going to be a handful of pre-owned trucks that are going to have excessive amounts of wear and tear on the frame, engine, transmission, and transaxle due to the intense jobs they performed. If this is the case with the pre-owned truck you are looking at, then do not buy it. Clean, one-owner trucks are the best to purchase used, and our lot is scattered with these gems, so be sure to check out our inventory. We perform thorough inspections of all trucks before listing them for sale to ensure quality.

Used Trucks are a Great Investment

If you chose to sell the used truck that you purchased down the road, your return on your initial investment would be significantly higher than if you purchased a new truck. The moment that a new truck is driven off of a car lot, the value drops immensely, this means that no matter how good of care you give your truck, it will never be worth the same amount as when you purchased it. Now, on the flipside. If you purchase a used truck, the depreciation in value is far less intense. Used trucks retain more of their value since they are not being driven off the lot brand new. Have we convinced you to purchase a used truck yet?

The GM 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine-Stallons Auto Hopkin

Combining high horsepower and high torque with Best in Class fuel economy, the General Motors 5.3L EcoTec3 L83 V8 engine is a marvelous example of the engineering prowess that GM uses in its full-size pickup trucks. Because this engine is so popular, we thought you would like to know more about this world-class GM V8.

At Stallons Auto in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, we sell many GM trucks with this engine, so knowing more about it will help you make a better buying decision. Coming to Stallons Auto is a better buying decision, too. We’re family-owned. It’s our family helping your family, and this makes all the difference. Because our customers trust us, they refer their family and friends to us. We’re confident you will, too.

The Family of GM EcoTec3 Engines

The GM EcoTec3 5.3L V8 is part of GM’s family of EcoTec3 engines. This all-aluminum block and head engine-line consist of a smaller 4.3L V6, the 5.3L V8, and a larger 6.2L V8. The aim of this GM family of engines is to provide GM truck owners the greatest engine horsepower and torque over a wide variety of truck work situations and demands while providing the highest possible fuel economy. You'll find these engines in the 2014-2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierras. GM balances power with fuel efficiency with a mixture of high-tech engine design and testing.

GM Spends 10 million Hours Designing Its 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine

GM’s Small-Block chief engineer and program manager, Jordan Lee reports that GM has over 10 million hours of computation CPU design time invested in the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine, with 6 million of those hours devoted to the advanced combustion system design alone. And over 100 different trials were modeled to bring the best combination of combustion chamber design (size, shape and piston head form), direct fuel injection, active fuel management (cylinder deactivation) and variable valve timing (VVT).

5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine’s Combustion Chamber Design Saves Gas

The combustion chamber is where the gasoline is ignited to drive the piston to power the engine. Design is critical to achieving the highest power and lowest fuel use. In the 5.3L EcoTec3 engine, GM has reshaped and decreased the size of the combustion chamber and optimized the contours of the piston head, which boosts power and fuel efficiency. This direct fuel injection technology burns the gasoline more completely, so no gas is wasted, producing higher horsepower and torque.

Active Fuel Management on the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine

Active Fuel Management (AFM) deactivates piston cylinders that receive fuel when the engine is under a light load. When driving to or from a worksite with nothing in the pickup bed, full power is not needed. AFM will deactivate four of the cylinders, effectively making the engine operate as a V4. This saves many gallons of gas that would otherwise be consumed, driving pistons that need not be used. This allows the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 to achieve a Best in Class fuel efficiency rating of 16 MPG driving in the city and 23 MPG on the highway. This is done while generating 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. And you can use E85 flex-fuel in this engine, too.

5.3L EcoTec3 V8 Engine Uses Variable Valve Timing

Continuously Variable Valve Timing allows the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 to produce high horsepower and torque over a wide portion of the engine’s operating speed while saving fuel. This is done by changing when the engine valves open and close. Variable valve timing optimizes gasoline combustion for greater power using less fuel.

GM has designed the 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 engine with you in mind. Giving you maximum horsepower and torque when needed and the Best in Class fuel efficiency saves you money. Schedule a test drive with us at Stallons Auto in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to see just how well the GM EcoTec3 5.3L V8 performs in a variety of real-world scenarios.
